Katja Pollman was the guest speaker this week. Katja is the Community Engagement Director for the Court Appointed Special Advocates, CASA. Volunteers support and empower foster children, at risk youth, and families in crisis. There are 60 thousand kids in foster care in California. CASA volunteers advocate in court for the children by informing the judge of situations related to the children that they would otherwise not know. Katja shared a touching story about 6y/o Lisa. Lisa called 911 saying, "My Daddy is hitting my brother and sister and Mom. Mom is saying "don't hit the baby." This is an example of the kind of situations that need CASA.
