Charline began her discussion of her experience as a Rotary Youth Exchange with introducing us to her family, her country, her school, Belgium food and some differences between her life in Belgium and her experience here in Lincoln. She shared many of her travels which were amazing in numbers for 9 months, Yosemite, DisneyLand, Snowboarding in Tahoe, time in Sacramento, and Hawaii to name a few travels. Charline said she has matured during her time here and that even though she learned a lot and saw a lot of this country she still loves Belgium (as she should). She thanked the club members profusely and genuinely. Especially her counselor Maria and Maria's family. She feels that she will never forget her time in America.
Livia shared most of the same events with Charline and so after showing her family and talking a bit about Brazil she told us why she wanted to be an Exchange student for many years. Livia learned most of her fluent English from watching movies and TV in English. She was so impressed with what she learned she really wanted to see Hollywood and the USA. She then learned about the Rotary RYE and applied for consideration. Livia was excited to be able to see so much of California and to be able to go to Hawaii (and all the other places). She also expressed gratitude to her Rotary Counselor, her host families, and the club. She admits that she would like to return to Ca. for college if possible.
Both girls gave excellent and very comprehensive reports. They feel that they matured because of the exchange and all the opportunities they were given to participate in so many events that were new to them. They said they will remember Lincoln Rotary for the rest of their lives.
