Officer Rogers and community Officer Megan Rehard gave a very enlightening and helpful discussion on Scams, Social Media Security and Technology Crimes. Officer Rogers asked the question: how many people have had telephone attempts, or email attempts that they recognized as attempted scams or fraud? A surprising number of those present had indeed been party to attempted scams either on their computer or cell phones. We all know to be suspicious of grand kids in trouble in Cabo San Lucas, but some members also had to stop and call credit cards to verify the attempted fraud (as they should).

The Officers provided 4 pages that covered the topics of Social Media Security and how to Educate Yourself, Technology Crimes and how to Prevent them, and Scams Explained and What You Can Do to prevent being a victim of a scam or if you think you may have been a victim of fraud. Copies are available if anyone would like to read them as a quick refresher.
They emphasized the following cautions: Do Not: provide personal information, financial information, login in info, passwords, do not provide any payment, do not just "click", do not send photos when on vacation (wait until you return home) etc.
