Sidney Smith - Rotary Club of Elk Grove President 2019-2020, Area Governor District 5180 and now  District Governor - Nominee

Sidney Smith is the District Governor Elect Nominee for the 2023-2024 Rotary Year.  

Sidney was a corporate executive with United Parcel Service for nearly 20 years. In August 2001, Sidney began serving as a minister in the Sacramento community. In what he calls “providential,” his first official staff meeting was on the morning of September 11, 2001. Months later, he and his team flew to New York City to serve at Ground Zero.

In 2002, Sidney became a Rotarian. He has served on several Rotary boards and committees. He is past president of the Rotary Club of Elk Grove. He is currently an Assistant Governor and advisor to the District’s Peace Committee. Most recently, Sidney accepted the appointment of District Governor for Rotary year 2023-24.

Sidney is a community connector having been a football coach for over two decades. In addition, he  has served on several non-profit boards in the region. Over the last decade Sidney’s been a mentor and facilitator for his club’s youth mentor program. The program serves at-risk college bound students from middle school through the completion of high school. 

Sidney embraces the anthropological philosophy of “Fictive Kinship.” It derives from the concept of lifelong friendships and bonds among people with like interests. Sidney believes that what Rotarians have in common is greater than what divides us.

Sidney and wife Debra have been married for 32 years. They have three children and two grandchildren. In his “free” time he enjoys photography, travel, and an Israeli martial art called Krav Maga.
