Carrie Beth Bowin -
  Her LIfe and
   Her Water Projects

Our speaker told an amazing story of how she survived life after 7 life-threatening operations. After this, she decided to embark upon a humanitarian course for her life, leaving for Central America with only a pack on her back. She spent considerable time in Honduras, El Salvador, and then ventured to Ecuador, Haiti and Kenya and many other countries.  After working in many orphanages, she found a relatively inexpensive, reliable water filter that is now currently used in many countries to assure that people have a source of clean drinking water. She and a few others have established the For One Another Foundation (ForOnAnother.org) where she is the Executive Director.  They currently distribute a large number of the bucket/water filters shown in the picture. The foundation goal is to distribute 500,000 filters in the year 2022. Our International Committee is working to provide some funding. See the website for how you can personally help Carrie Beth achieve her goals.

Art started the meeting by recognizing the Women of Rotary and our Club since Sunday is International Women's Day.  See the slides for many links to related websites.

Claire announced that the Baseball Benefit Dinner will be March 18th, and that there will be no meeting at the Woman's club the next day.  The members who normally attend the Sunset meeting will also attend, offering a great opportunity for fellowship with all club members.  Contact Claire if you don't have a ticket yet. Claire also urged members to contribute auction prizes for the Taste of Italy. Harvey encouraged members to sell their event tickets, or let him know that the tickets will not be sold.

Karen discussed the Books for Bikes and Book Buddies schedules and encouraged all members to participate. Paul showed us a certificate given to us by Toys for Tots, noting that we received a "Commanders" award for the relatively large number of tots that we contributed.

Kimberly won the raffle but could not find the elusive Ace of Spades. (She was also very Happy about her new energy-efficient car.)  We also presented a check for $1001 to Kimberly for her favorite cause LHS Sober Grad Night.
