Committees and Announcements:
Kris reported that the 12 Bridges HS Interact Club donated $500 for Shelter Boxes to match the donation of the Club. Rich Pearl then announced another $500 match for the Shelter Boxes.
Webmaster TR Bietsch gave a comprehensive report on the additions and changes to the Website. Members are encouraged to view the changes at: lincolncarotary.org
Rich gave a brief report on his attendance at the recent PETS in San Jose. Saying the daytime instruction was impressive for the 350 attendees. He also asked members to consider stepping up for Chair positions to relieve members who have been generously serving. He will speak more specifically soon.
Speaker: Katie Smith, president of the local chapter of the Assistance League of Greater Placer.
Katie began by saying that she had been a teacher for 23 years and after retiring, moved into serving with non-profits. Since she had experience with doing evaluations she joined the Assistance League to help with their every 2 year evaluation of their programs.
The Assistance League of Placer was founded in 1987 and offers 13 Programs provided by the 200 plus volunteers. The programs are helped by other groups of volunteers as well.
She described several programs: Operation School: providing back-to-school shopping days for families in 108 schools including 307 children in Lincoln. The Scholarship Program especially focused for Alternative School students for vocational studies as well as college.
Other programs include Community Assistance, Literacy Program, a Puppet Program for third grade students, and Reaching Out- for the homeless.
