Events and Committee Announcements
Leadership Lincoln: President Greg went last year. This year, Keela and Clark will attend. Kris sent around clipboard for volunteer help at the National Night Out (8/6th) and as Bartenders at the LHS Football Bar (8/9th). Kris also reported the need for a new scoreboard at McBean Park. See her for tickets ($20) to a fundraiser circus. Jan sent around a clipboard for volunteer speaker coordinators still needed for September, January, and February.
President Greg discussed with the members the value of hearing from political speakers and what our officials do. We had an Assemblyman as a recent speaker. Some members shared with Greg that they were concerned as Rotary is not a political nor a religious organization, and we need to watch what we say…but also to share with politicians about RYLA, for example, and our many volunteer activities and projects in the community and beyond.

Guest Speaker
Guest Speaker: our own past President, Richard Pearl, shared the travel experience he and his wife, Penny had, in their travels to India, Nepal, and Mt. Everest. His presentation was outstanding, with photos, video, and background and facts about the places they visited and the history of Mt. Everest as a climber’s goal. The main two things re: climbing the 29,032 foot, 60-million-year-old Mt. Everest are preparation and perseverance. Thirty-five thousand people have visited Mt. Everest, but only 6,200 have climbed, survived, and returned from the massive peak. The youngest climber was a 13-year-old American boy, and the oldest was an 80-year-old Japanese climber. Richard and Penny traveled by chartered helicopter, and took incredible photos of the Mountain, and indicated where the various Camps were, the need for additional Oxygen, and the best season for climbing. In Kathmandu, Nepal, they photographed a District Rotary sign!

The Four-Way Test
           The Four-Way Test
Of the things we think, say or do:
   1. Is it the truth?
   2. Is it fair to all concerned?
   3. Will it build goodwill and
         better friendships?
   4. Will it be beneficial
        to all concerned?

   5. HAVE FUN !!
