Service Above Self

That is the true essence of Rotary. Service! That is why we chose to join Rotary. We wanted to serve our community. We didn’t join Rotary to just pay monthly dues. We didn’t join Rotary just to sit in a weekly meeting. We didn’t join Rotary just to have lunch on Thursday’s. We joined Rotary to serve. As a Rotarian there are many ways to serve. You can get involved in a committee and work to serve in a specific area. You can get involved and help with the weekly meetings. You can take a leadership role and help shepherd one of our big events. Or you can simply show up and help at one of our planned volunteer events. This last Saturday a group of us volunteered at the Salt Mine here in Lincoln. A quick 2 hours to help the community and those less fortunate. We helped to serve 111 Lincoln families. There were 5 of us there from Lincoln Rotary. Three Rotarians and 2 Rotary family members. We were a small but mighty team. We all have busy lives, but because of Rotary we have the obligation to serve. The question we need to ask ourselves is: Am I just a person attending rotary meetings, or am I a Rotarian? We don’t have to do Rotary; we are privileged and get to do Rotary.

Upcoming Guest Speaker

The speaker for the next meeting, on 9-19-24, is Krista Shaw, daughter of Kimberly McCue. Krista attended RYLA in June, and we look forward to hearing about her experience.

 Meeting Welcome

President Greg opened the meeting with 23 members and 3 guests present. The flag salute was led by Truman Rich, and the Four Way Test was led by Joann Hilton. Guests welcomed were Sergey Malko ( guest of Ria), John Reedy (guest of Richard), and Sam Russell (guest of Kimberly). Greg spoke about 9/11 and the importance of 9/11. As per Amazon, every day is the first day of a new beginning. Kris read a beautiful poem, Tapestry, by Becky Hemsley, which reminds us that “Memories and experiences wrap us with the beautiful quilt of life!!” Greg spoke about the Lincoln Serves group which includes all Service Organizations in Lincoln, who are working together without duplicating projects. He mentioned that monetary contributions go farther than donated products, regarding the Salt Mine.

Events and Committee Announcements
Kris Wyatt and Kerry Callahan are coordinating the 100th year anniversary of the RCL (10/16/1925 to 10/16/2025) which will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2025. The Salt Mine needs volunteers on Sat., 9/14, from 11 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. as per Linda Scott. Kris Wyatt spoke about the Senior Health Fair on Wed., Sept. 18th from 10 to 2 p.m. at McBean Park, with 50 vendors and a variety of senior resources available. Linda reminded us about the Great Auburn Ravine Cleanup at on Sat., 9/21/24. Joann spoke about the District’s Peace Conference Event on 9/21/24 at CA Expo. Guest Speaker
Kimberly McCue has been a Code Enforcement Officer for the past two years, and Sam Russell has been her assistant for the past 8 months. Their job is to help maintain the health and safety of Lincoln citizens. Kim defined the area they serve re: businesses, homes, and undeveloped lands. Lincoln citizens can call Code Enforcement to help maintain property values, and to ensure that rules are followed. The goal of Code Enforcement is compliance through cooperation, and they partner with Placer Co. Animal Control, Lincoln Fire Dept., Lincoln Police Dept, Bldgs. and Permits, Utilities, Health and Human Services, and Adopt a Creek Volunteers. The Pilot Program involves housing in 6 trailers with the goal of accountability vs enabling an unhoused person. The Program is achieving success.

   3. Will it build goodwill and
         better friendships?
   4. Will it be beneficial
        to all concerned?
