Induction and Welcome of New Member
Membership chair, Bryan Ludwig, welcomed Angela Frost as a new member after an excellent review of Rotary.
He spoke about the benefits and responsibilities of being a Rotarian. Kimberly McCue, as sponsor, then gave Angela the Rotary membership pin. The club welcomed Angela with applause and a standing ovation.
Events and Committee Announcements
Clark announced the beginning of the Robert S. Dart Fellow program.
Rotary Club of Lincoln was given a gift of several properties following the death of Robert Dart, a past member of our club.
This new Pin is to honor his membership and generosity to the community. Very much like the Paul Harris Fellowship, members can donate any amount of money and when the total reaches $1,000 that member will be recognized and awarded the Robert S. Dart Fellow Pin.

Carole O. announced she will be mailing 70- 100 invitations to community members this week for the Survivors Tea to be held on June 15th. Bryan shared that the Tour de Lincoln has added a 10K option for the event. Also, Lincoln Hills Bike Shop had donated a bike for raffle. This is the 23rd year of the Tour de Lincoln and the 5th time Rotary has hosted the popular fundraising event. Paul reported that the WCS has completed most of their donation plans for the fiscal year. Three are still outstanding; Zambia with the Rotary Club of Phoenix, Guatemala with the Cupertino Rotary Club, and will most likely carry over into 2024-2025; and a project with the Chapala Sunrise Club in Ojo de Agua "Wetlands for Sanitation". All three projects are waiting for final Global Grant approval from RI.
Guest Speaker, Kathryn Hunt
Greg Kevin introduced Kathryn Hunt, the Director of the Lincoln Public Library,
mentioning her academic background and employment biography. He ended by saying that she would "talk about books".
Kathryn discussed studies of the impact books in the home, and reading to children have on the future success of children. Studies mentioned showed that books at home and parents with a college degree add 3.2 years of education for the child. The benefits of books and reading include: inspiring the desire to read, to spontaneously read more, reading increases literacy skills, encourages more years of education, more ease in being employed, reading increases brain function, increases empathy, supports more mental and physical health. The Lincoln Library provides a book for every 1st grader in Lincoln.
Linda Derosier spoke about how the Friends of Lincoln Library serve the library. Her volunteer position helps provide the outreach into the community and provides fundraising for library needs as a 501-c-3. She explained the Lincoln Hold Lockers that allow access to books at any time. These Lockers are located at the Main Library and also at the Community Center.
The Object of Rotary
The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster: First the development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service; Second High ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all occupations, and the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve society; Third The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarians\'s personal, business, and community life; Fourth The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.
The Four-Way Test
           The Four-Way Test
Of the things we think, say or do:
   1. Is it the truth?
   2. Is it fair to all concerned?
   3. Will it build goodwill and
         better friendships?
   4. Will it be beneficial
        to all concerned?

   5. HAVE FUN !!
