Beth Funderberg has been an educator for 21 years, with the majority of her experience in elementary special education, where she developed a strong foundation in individualized instruction and foundational skill-building. She now leads the 18–22 Adult Transition Program, where she supports young adults in developing independence, confidence, and meaningful life skills through hands-on, real-world learning experiences. This should be another very interesting program in the Pathway series.
Lindsey opened the meeting in the absence of President Kerry. This evening meeting welcomed 20 members as well as 7 guests. Guests included Guest Speaker Marilou Edwards and LHS students, Thalia Fech, Abby Rojas, and Madison Huong. Other guests included Sheena Stirling (Judith Ratley), Lisa Cambria (Darrell), Juliette Robertson (Julie Baird) The flag salute was led by Dick Fowler and the Four Way Test was led by Josh Graves.
Lindsey reviewed the Events Calendar. Alicia spoke about the Wine Fest and the Cirque De Soiree and encouraged members to buy and sell tickets to the Cirque and reported some of the fun activities that are planned for that Fundraiser. Members were reminded that the District Assembly is held here and that as a club we should take advantage of having this event in Lincoln. This offers a free opportunity to learn more about Rotary.
Marilou Edwards has been in education 35 years and 25 of those teaching science at Lincoln High School. She recently transitioned into leading the CTE Education Pathway, similar to the discussion at our previous meeting. There are 3 levels available for students before graduation. Level one is the Introductory course. For one example of this level: the students work with electronic babies for 3 days. The babies are programmed to cry during the night which surprised the students but provided a glimpse of parenting. Level 2 the students work with pre-school children at the LHS Farm and they plan, promote, and host a Pre-School Expo and Mini Day Camp. Level 3 is the final course of the Educational Pathway. By now the students are interns in some of the WPUSD elementary schools. They actively teach some classes and they have learned leadership skills that are outstanding. They can qualify as paraprofessionals while they are in college. Marilou illustrated her passion for this program and her ongoing use of additional ways to make the program even more valuable.
