Lincoln High School Farm 4-25-24
This week is a Club Field Trip to the Lincoln High School Farm. Located at 6001 William Lane, Lincoln. If you are carpooling, plan to meet at the Women's Club at 11:30. Kris said to be aware that the last mile to the Farm is not paved and to wear farm clothing. Per the posting of Blackburn Consulting: " A unique use of 500 acres, the Lincoln High School Farm provides the students with hands-on agriculture and natural resources experience."
Minutes of Meeting 4-11-2024
President Richard opened the meeting with 22 members and 3 guests present. Joe Stewart led the Flag salute and Frima Stewart led the Four-Way Test. Guests included Penny Pearl, Students of the Month: Counselor Misty Marcan, student Paola Zepeda, her Mother Maria and brother Ismael. Student Taylor Brommerich and his father Damen. Richard shared some pictures and information about his recent trip to Kathmandu, Nepal, and Mount Everest. He'll provide a more detailed report at a future date.
Lyricist and Poet- Alan Lowe
Alan's topic today was: "What awaits us? When face to face with our future not everything comes true." As always, food for thought.

Events and Committee Announcements
Kris talked about the Cornerstone Project that she and other members spend with children in the classrooms. She said that is it rewarding and fun and encouraged others to consider the program next year. She mentioned that Richard will present the Club Scholarships to students at the High Schools. Paul reported that the houses that were demolished earlier this week, was a sight to watch, and now the properties are no longer an "eyesore." Joann reminded all volunteers for the WineFest, to check-in at Registration on arrival. Carole O brought to everyone's attention, that the date for the Survivors Tea was changed to June 15th. She has scheduled a Community Service Committee meeting directly after the May 2 meeting to plan for this event.
Guest Speakers Joann Hilton and Dick Fowler
Joann began the discussion of Youth Protection Awareness and Club Certification. Why is this necessary? Joann began with a story of a 70 year old Rotarian in Washington who had been vetted, was an outstanding member of his community, and yet he was discovered to have taken advantage of an RY Exchange Student. Dick shared the repercussions of youth abuse highly publicized with Boy Scouts, that caused Boy Scouts of Ameria Lawsuits in excess of 2 billion dollars. Youth Protection is to do everything possible to protect the students and to avoid the legal possibilities. Bill Alston has provided many slides that outline what is required. Please click on the photos for 4-18 to learn more about this important club requirement. Most Important Benefit of completing the requirements: compliance with Rotary International and District requirements and reliance that Club's and Rotary's liability is covered.
