Upcoming Speaker 6-18-26
The Guest Speaker for our meeting June 18th is Robert Freeman, of Livermore Valley Rotary Club, the Founder and Executive Director of The Global Uplift Project (TGUP).  He will talk about how TGUP, NorCal Rotary Clubs, and Rotary Clubs in Uganda are revolutionizing high school Science education in Uganda by providing laboratory equipment for 200,000 Ugandan high school students. Try not to miss this last outstanding speaker of the Rotary year.
 Meeting Welcome
President- Elect Lindsey Graves opened the meeting. Eighteen members were present and 4 guests including Andres Alvarezas, Marissa Bashore and RYE members Livia and Charline. The Flag salute was led by Dick Fowler, and the Four-Way Test was led by Meade Fischer.
Events and Committee News
Lindsey reviewed the Calendar of Events. Committee reports followed. Claire Luke reported on the food survey. Members prefer healthy food and more variety. Alicia Cochran-said that all future event sign ups will be on ClubRunner. The July 4th Parade was discussed as well as other future events. Clark Osterhout reported that fraud was found in the Club Foundation account. It was quickly resolved and a new credit card is being issued. Clark announced that he and Janet are hosting a potluck dinner- farewell party for Charline and Livia at their home on June 26. Swimming is available. The time is TBD.
Guest Speaker 6-11-26
Guest Speaker, Marissa Bashore, is the Health Education Supervisor for the Office of Community Outreach and Engagement. She spoke on lung cancer prevention and screening, and the current progress in diagnosing and treatment. Lung cancer screening should be done yearly. In Placer County over the last 20 years the number of new cases of lung cancer and the deaths attributed to it, are showing significant declines. She discussed the causes with smoking still being the main reason. Other causes include secondhand smoke, air pollution, radon, arsenic from well water, and asbestos. Lastly, she identified that those ages 50-80, current smokers or those who quit smoking 15 years ago or less, should be screened routinely once a year.
