Rotary Membership
The lunch meeting opened with the Thought for the Day about Fellowship: “Laughter is sweet when enjoyed alone. But it becomes sweeter when you enjoy it .JPG) together with the people around you….” This is what our fellowship in Lincoln Rotary is all about. Fellowship in our meetings, social events and service activities is the thing that holds our club together.
The meeting slides showed pictures from the Chamber Awards Banquet, where our club was chosen as the "Best Service Club of Lincoln" having been honored by this award for many years. This year, there were no other nominees by Chamber members. Clark and Rob did great jobs of orchestrating most of the "show."
We had two guests from the Lincoln Community Garden bring the message that they could use some more financial help to upgrade the community garden. In addition, PDG Bob Deering presented a project being organized by the St. Augustine Episcopal Church on Wildcat Blvd. For this event they want to raise about $12K and pack 40,000 meals for Stop Hunger Now a global humanitarian organization with a commitment to end hunger. Click Event Flyer for more information. Rose and the Community Service committee will consider both causes to determine if they are appropriate for the club to support.
Art apologized that we did not get through all of the Club Assembly ideas from last week. We will be having "mini-discussions" on the additional items in upcoming meetings. Although there was no time today, due to a long-drawn-out "Happy Bucks" discussion by Ed and Truman, and because of the unexpected guest presentations, the meeting slides have the elements of a discussion on "Participation" vs "Attendance" and urges all members to aim for a high combination of the two as our Rotary committment to Service Above Self.
Dan made a presentation about the organization and activities of the Membership Committee and the elements of Rotary membership in our club. See Dan's membership slides, which Dan promised to expand upon more and send out separately to document his excellent discussion on what membership in our club is all about.
