President Kerry’s music, trivia, facts, and slogans continue into the late 50’s with a surprise visit from the King singing " Heartbreak Hotel." Elvis then started a PolioPlus collection which provided generous donations from club members. The flag salute was led by Elvis (AKA Clark), and the 4 Way Test was led by Alicia. Julie Westerling and Kris Wyatt introduced Interact Leaders, Grace Martin and Becca Warner. They gave a brief history of Interact and were given Blue Badges from the club. RYE Counselors, Maria Gonzalez and Donna Martin, treated Charlene and Livia to a Kings' game. The girls said that Halloween is not celebrated in Europe and Brazil, so they have been fascinated to see how Lincoln, and the USA, treats the holiday.
Lindsey and Alicia reminded members of the Trick or Treat in the Plaza, from 3-5 PM Friday 10/31, as well as reminder of the Gala which included the extension of sign-ups. Lindsey also announced November 8th is the first Adopt-A Street cleanup day. She will be sending an email with the details. Bryan reported a good turnout of 112 riders for the Tour de Lincoln and a very exciting financial outcome due to sponsors generosity and much work promoting the popular event. He thanked Bill Laube for being the event awesome chef. Bryan also announced that he would Chair the event again in 2026. Claire gave information that starting in January, the 2nd Thursday of the month will be an evening meeting. Members have expressed that many prospective members have not joined Rotary because they are unable to attend during the lunch hour.
Guest speakers, Indira and Celina Salas, spoke with passion about the Latina Leadership Council. The mission is to advance cultural strength, leadership and well-being within the Latino Community. They gave several examples of how the programs that they provide, positively impacts the lives of the Latino community.
