Guest Speaker this week is Ryan Ronco. Ryan Ronco is Placer County’s clerk-recorder-registrar of voters. He was appointed to his current position by the Placer County Board of Supervisors in 2016, was elected to the post by Placer County’s voters in 2018, and was reelected for another four year term June of 2022. We look forward to hearing from Ryan.
President Richard opened the meeting with the Flag salute by Julie Baird and Truman led the Four Way Test with 32 members and 4 guests present. Guests present: Sonia Rincon (Carol A.), Gia McNutt (Joann) and Mike Cramer(Joann).
Mike Boon is the Senior Chaplain/Executive Director at Placer County Law Enforcement Chaplaincy. The Chaplaincy provides a response to several law enforcement agencies' requests for assistance during emotionally traumatic situations involving individual, families or groups of people. Mike said that the ministry is “the best kept secret in Placer County.”He gave several examples of the service the volunteer Chaplains provide. They respond to homes where an unexpected death has occurred. They deal with the family which allows the officers to do their investigation. Families have often said to Mike that: they “don't know what to do next.” The Chaplain can help them with finding a funeral home and provides them with referrals for the help available for other needs as well. Mike told a story of a service needed that was to babysit a dog whose owner had just passed away. The dog needed friendly help which Mike provided so that the family could say goodbye to their loved one. Mike stressed that the Chaplains allow the officers to do their investigations while they help with the grieving family. The Chaplains are well trained before going on service calls. The Chaplaincy is a 501c3, and funding is provided by State and Federal grants and 3 Fundraisers as well as private donations. The 35 current Chaplains responded to 313 service calls in 2023 and expect that 2024 will have more calls.
Many thanks to everyone who contributed ideas for this Bulletin, and to Jan for proofreading, and Bill for his awesome photos.
