Our Guest Speaker this week is Art Deardorff, Foundation Chair and Website operator extraordinaire. He will be talking and educating members on the ABC's of the Lincoln Rotary Websites and Web presence. Try not to miss this opportunity to become more familiar with ClubRunner. President Kerry opened the meeting with Fun Facts and then welcomed 27 members and 8 guests. Guests included Guest Speaker C.J.Duxbury, LHS Counselor Misty Alaron and Student of the Month Scott Roycraft- his mother Jessica and Gmother Ginni Beckard, and Student Sarah Pham, Stephanie Cauthen (Team 1), Sam Gakunga, and Beth O'Roak visiting Rotarian. The flag salute was led by Joann Hilton, and the Four Way Test was led by Karen Johnson.
Greg inducted Gerard DeMiguel, sponsored by Clark Osterhout, into Rotary. He briefly reviewed the obligations and expectations of being a Rotarian. Gerard was given the club certificate and Rotary pin, and the members welcomed Gerard with a standing ovation.
Kerry reviewed the calendar of events and showed a video of the recent District Assembly. Greg shared that he attended the Speech Contest Semi-Finals saying there were many really excellent contestants and that the student from our Area, Beka Warner, came in a respectful fourth place. Joann repeated that any foreign currency can be donated at the District Conference (she will collect and deliver the currency). It will ultimately be donated to PolioPlus.
Guest Speaker, C.J. Duxbury, was introduced by Holly Andreatta. C.J. has 15 years of experience withs non-profit and 2 years with KidsFirst. C.J. shared that he had a traumatic childhood with an abusive, alcoholic father, which helps him to empathize with the needs of children coming to KidsFirst. “Our professional and caring team works with families facing stress and trauma that can lead to child abuse, domestic violence, sex trafficking, and other extremely difficult issues. KidsFirst is doing the hard work that is needed to provide essential services and resources to the children and families who need it most."
