"In the Spotlight"

Richard called on Wayne Crow to give an “In the Spotlight” presentation. Wayne came from Texas, to Arizona, finally to California as a child. His family lived in a labor camp in the Central Valley because his father was a cotton picker. As a child, he and his siblings, attended local schools, and all graduated from excellent Colleges. Wayne had a notable history with football; first in UC Berkley including playing in the Rose Bowl in 1960, then with the Raiders and Buffalo, until an Achilles tendon injury ended that career. Wayne was employed by the Fremont School District, in the Dublin School District, and eventually spent 30 years as superintendent at a school for Alternative Learning. He retired early and moved to Truckee and eventually to Sun City Lincoln.

Guest Speaker  Sue Oliveira

Sue Oliveira was introduced by Shanti, saying that after retiring from Hewlett Packard Sue began volunteering for various non-profits, holding Board Member and Board Chair positions. Six years ago, she co-founded 100+WomenWhoCare Placer County. Sue then went on to explain that the organization meets quarterly and currently has about 85 members that donate $100 each quarter. They seek out non-profits and invite a number of these non-profits to give a 5 minute presentation about their organization and how the 100+ contribution will support their causes. The members then vote and award their donations directly to the non-profits. Best Buy matches the funding that 100+ provides to the non-profits. What makes this organization different is that they are not a 501c3 but rather require donors to donate directly to the selected non-profits. The 100+ does not collect donations themselves.

The Four-Way Test
           The Four-Way Test
Of the things we think, say or do:
   1. Is it the truth?
   2. Is it fair to all concerned?
   3. Will it build goodwill and
         better friendships?
   4. Will it be beneficial
        to all concerned?

   5. HAVE FUN !!
