Our COVID task force team has reached to a number of organizations. They wanted to find some immediate needs to address right away. Lincoln Rotary just gave the Salt Mine $2500 as the most pressing need right now seems to be food.
Our task force was directed to St. Vincent de Paul, and they have been helping those in need with rent. They've instituted a hotline for those in need, and their supplies for that hotline are limited. The Board approved $2,000 to be sent to them.
The task force is also looking at potentially helping the Placer Food Bank, Lincoln Hills Community Foundation (they've noticed that families are more in need than seniors). They reached out to Lighthouse, and Lighthouse said their fund for gift cards, food and diapers is dwindling, so they are seeking contributions. This is in the cue for approval. Sutter and Kaiser are both in need of PPE. Sierra College Foundation has suggested giving gift cards for students who lost jobs and don't have enough money for food.
Bill Gates has said there may be a resurgence of Polio, so we need to be aware of that as Rotarians.
From Kris: 92% of Lincoln school kids have internet access, 8% don't. Kris said the district is working on helping get access for those students. Rotary may be able to help supplement some of the cost on that. The Foundry is also setting appointments twice a week for kids to come in and use the internet, meet with a counselor, etc.
Survey results from Main Street USA showed that 30 million people are at risk of being unemployed due to small businesses going out of business. See below for how you can help.
