A proud Sacramento native, Alex Becerra is a Community Development Specialist at SAFE Credit Union supporting the Community Relations and Financial Education team. He is passionate about connecting with people and finding unique ways to partner with individuals and organizations that create, inspire, and uplift our communities. He also serves as host and lead producer of the Perfect Cents Podcast, SAFE's official financial wellness podcast. In his personal life, Alex enjoys spending quality time with his wife and two children, visiting Disneyland, and engaging in extensive conversations about music, theater, and film.
President Greg opened the meeting with the thought for the day. The Flag salute was led by Art Deardorff, and the 4-Way Test was led by Kristi McKenney. Greg welcomed to the meeting 26 members of the club, and 2 guests: HUB members, Makaela Zimmerman and Emily Barney (Lindsey Graves). Lindsey presented them a check for $1500 for the HUB Family Resource Center. Greg announced the passing of Gerald Langle, a former RCL member and club president in 1990-91. President Greg also announced that Francesco Arezzo will be the new RI President for 2025-26.
President Greg reported that 16 Rotarians served about 100 families at the Salt Mine. There will be no Board Meeting on July 25th. There will be an abbreviated Board Meeting on July 10th, and a regular Board Meeting on July 17th. Richard passed around the signup list for our July 28th Kick Out Event at Katrin’s Biergarten starting at 5:30 p.m. (4810 Granite Drive, Rocklin). Lindsey reminded us that our July 4th parade volunteers will have breakfast at McDonald’s at 6:30 a.m. Watch for the signup Genius for our Tour de Lincoln, Oct. 18th. Flyers were passed around. Jan sent around the signup list for speaker coordinators: we need just two more members to sign up. Darrell announced that all properties have been sold… and we will be merging properties with Foundation on July 30th. President Greg and Clark Osterhout will be attending the RI Conference in Calgary, Canada June 21 – 25th.
Guest Speaker Tony Johnson shared his project to provide housing for needy families in Roatan, an island off the coast of Honduras. The Johnson family: Tony, his wife, six sons, and 7 grandchildren have the spirit of giving and helping those in need. The goal is to build two small houses in four days. The building cost is $23,000 plus additional dollars for addons. He described the building process. Tony gave us information re: considering a sponsorship for anyone interested, even just to visit Roatan. He passed around flyers with photos of the before (shack) and after (small house).
