Our guest speakers on Thursday are Meghan Adamski and Roxanne Snyder. Meghan Adamski has been with A Touch of Understanding since 2015 and moved into the role of Executive Director in 2019. Growing up, Meghan always befriended individuals with disabilities. She received her bachelor’s degree in Speech Pathology as well as her Speech Pathology Assistant License from CSU Sacramento. Meghan has been honored to be a part of reaching more than 10,000 students a year through the disability-awareness workshops.
President Greg opened the meeting with 35 members and 2 guests present. The flag salute and the Four Way Test were led by President Greg. Guests present were Sacramento Rotarian Julia Ciano and Guest Speaker Mark Rubick.
Clark Osterhout provided a very comprehensive overview of the Rotary International Foundation history, and of Rotary's use of the generous donations made by Rotarians. Clark explained how the Paul Harris recognition program was founded and then presented a Paul Harris +3 pin to Phil Koenig. The Club gave Phil a standing ovation.
Keela Marquez shared some of her fascinating background with the club. She had a difficult childhood. At age 18 she began her independent way to her future. She attended college at UNR , worked in law enforcement, became a Deputy Constable, and eventually moved to Roseville. Along the way she married and became mother to 3 children and 1 grandchild. Keela is currently employed by First American Title as Manager and escrow officer. Welcome to new member Keela.
President Greg began his theme related meeting with coverage of Events on the Calendar. Bryan reiterated that volunteers are needed for both October 18 and 19. Sign up Genius will be active soon. He also thanked guest speaker Mark Rubick for his donation of a bicycle to raffle off for Tour de Lincoln. Membership Bryan saidthat he expects to induct two new members on 8/22. Keela reported that there is some discussion about adding Taste of Italy to the projects this year. Kris said that she's very excited to meet with the Interact officers this week at 12 Bridges.
Mark Rubick, our speaker, gave a brief background of the Lincoln Cyclery, Powered by Monster Joe’s Bike Service, at 1520 Del Webb Bld., Ste C-102, in Lincoln. He gave bios of the partners/founders: Joe Miller, Bill Dietz, and himself. Mark gave a brief history of bicycles, beginning with the 1820’s wooden Drasine with metal wheels. Lincoln Cyclery has a unique business model: with mobile service, convenience, and service for bikes (conventional, & recumbent), trikes, and e-bikes. He stressed the importance of good helmets. He gave handouts on Rules for Cyclists, and AB1096 E-Bike, and “Be Prepared in case of a Crash.”
