Rachel Wesp is a former Placer County District Attorney’s Office Victim Advocate who specialized in supporting survivors of child sexual abuse, Human Trafficking, and stalking. Rachel served on the Sexual Assault Response Team (SART)- a multidisciplinary team that works collaboratively to make system-wide improvements in response to sexual violence.Before her time at the District Attorney’s Office, Rachel advocated for the medical and legal rights of sexual assault victims with Growing Strong Sexual Assault Center. Rachel was also a member of Illinois Imagines, a statewide project to improve services to women with disabilities who have been victims of sexual violence. We look forward to hearing from Rachel.
President Kerry welcomed 41 members to the meeting (Including RYE members Charline DeWouter and Livia Imamura), as well as 8 guests. Guests included Guest Speaker Brian Passenhein, Gerard DeMiguel , Mona Bass, Sandy Cook & Kathy Loest (WBill), Penny Pearl(Richard), Amanda Johnson (Brian), Burt Mattson (Richard P.), and Ava Graves (Lindsey). The flag salute was led by Jamie Wedell and the Four Way Test was led by Julie W.
Livia Imamura, our youth exchange member from Brazil, was given a surprise Rotary birthday from her co-exchange student Charline, with lots of help from Julie Westerling, Kris and Donna her counselor.
Kristine Mollenkopf gave a heartfelt introduction of Mona Bass. She shared Mona's long-standing commitment to helping the local homeless population that has continued for many years. Mona started by picking up the rubbish from the homeless in the Auburn Ravine area and gradually she and other volunteers became friends with many of the homeless. As she saw the needs of the 70 residents in 2018, she was influential in starting the Homeless Task Force. The evolution of this these volunteers, and Mona's leadership, have led to housing, and guiding the homeless to services needed. The success of her leadership has reduced the current homeless population to 9, a record number for the size of Lincoln.
Paul, WSC member, provided this picture of the thank you note and books that were delivered to the Lincoln at 12 Bridges recently. Claire reported that many members attended the 5th week social at Legacy Sports Bar last week. Kris again asked for more judges and timers for the Speech Contests. W. Bill reminded members of the Feb. 13th Community Blood Drive and said that he needs to retire from leading this event. Hard shoes to fill, but someone is needed to take the position. Greg reported that Josh Graves has beennominated to be president elect-nominee for 2027-2028, by the committee of past -presidents. A vote of members was taken, and Josh was approved without dissent.
Guest Speaker, Brian Passenhein, grew up locally, graduating from Woodcreek High School in Roseville. After college that included a Masters of Science degree in law enforcement, he joined the Placer County Probation department as Chief Probation Officer. The goal of the department is to protect the community by holding individuals accountable while helping them make positive life changes through coaching, guidance, and evidence-based practices that support growth, reduce reoffending, and build safer, stronger community.
