If you are interested in our traffic issues, the place to be this week was at Lincoln Rotary where Mike Luken, Executive Director of Placer County Transportation Agency spoke to us about plans, constraints and proposed alternatives.
Much of it boils down to getting voters of Rocklin, Roseville, Loomis and Lincoln to agree to a sales tax increase dedicated to highway expansion. Your gas tax $$ go to maintenance only for roads. In order for our area to get the expansion we desperately need to try to keep up with development, we need to pass a "sharing" tax that provides for our residents to share in the costs.
At this point, Placer County is the largest County in the State that doesn't "share" through taxes. Without it, we do not receive State or Federal matching funds. Without a local source of funding, we are stuck !!
The measure, which has not yet been named is scheduled to be on the November 2020 ballot and preliminary polls look like the necessary 2/3 majority may be ready to say yes.
Mike gave a clear presentation of how important this will be to all of us and future generations. The top three priority projects are:
- I-80 H65 Interchange Improvements
- H65 widening
- I80 Auxiliary lanes by Douglas Blvd, etc.
Thanks to Joann Hilton for this great recap!
