Blood Source with Debbie Milios

Paul ran the meeting despite having to use Art's slides since Art had Jury Duty. The Welcome was given by Joann. The Raffle was won by Frank Neves however, he missed the Big Pot that will be at $490 next week. Several members were absent since we supported the Lincoln Fire Fighters 1st Annual Turkey Drive, in support of the Salt Mine (see photo link below).

Our wonderful Lincoln High School Students of the Month for two months, Savanna Avila and Lauren Gage, were introduced.  Both are excellent students and very active in school Leadership and other LHS activities.

Claire sent around a sign-up sheet for the Christmas Potluck at Dan and Sharon Johnson's home on December 11.  There will be no noon meeting  that day.

Dan Johnson sent around a sign-up sheet for the Blood Drive.  He mentioned that Blood Source needs 700 donors PER DAY to meet the need in the Greater area, so be sure to come and give the gift of life on December 12th at the Veteran's Hall on Fifth St between 2pm and 6pm.

ImageOur Speaker was Roseville Rotary member and BloodSource Director of Operations, Debbie Milios.  Debbie gave us some history of BloodSource and some fascinating facts about why giving blood is so very important.  BloodSource values our sponsoring the Lincoln Community Blood Drive that has been on-going for 15 years.  BloodSource started in 1948 in Sacramento with a donation total of 57 units.  They now distribute 250,000 units per year in the form of Platelets, Plasma and Whole Blood.  Debbie emphasized that they require an average of 700 donors every single day of the year to meet the growing needs of over 5million residents in the greater Sacramento region. She also explained that platelets have become important because of the needs by cancer patients.  Our next Blood Drive will be the first time we are offering the ability to donate Platelets.  It was a very interesting presentation and the timing could not have been better !!
