Minutes of Meeting 4-4-2024

Richard opened the meeting with the Flag salute by Joe Stewart, and the Four-Way Test led by Kris Wyatt. There were 26 members present and 3 guests; Keela Marquez, Brad Aronson and guest speaker Kim Summers.

Lyricist and Poet -Alan Lowe
Alan's topic today was "Are you the person you dreamed you would be as a child? " As always, food for thought and a provocative ending.

Induction and Welcome of New Member
Membership chair, Bryan Ludwig, welcomed Keela Marquez as a new member after an excellent review of Rotary.
He spoke about the benefits and responsibilities of being a Rotarian.
Darrell, as sponsor, then gave Keela the Rotary membership pin. The club welcomed Keela with applause and a standing ovation.
Events and Committee Announcements
Darrell: there are two of the Dart Homes being structurally demolished on April 15th. This would be quite a sight to see. He suggested that members drive by if you want to see this, located on 11th street ( and there is heavy equipment on the property that confirms the location). Also, Tony would appreciate suggestions for a stove and water heater that are relatively new and need a home or a donation location. Wild Bill is trying so hard to raise the number of Blood Drive participants. The need is great. Claire: The Phoenix H.S. Prom is on the horizon. Last year the club provided the pizza and soft drinks. The club seems in favor of providing the same this year.

Guest Speaker  Lisa Brownie

Greg introduced guest speaker Kim Summers with some of her professional history. She has a degree in Marketing and worked 4 years for the River Cats before joining the Placer Valley Tourism in 2008. She is now the CEO of the Placer Valley Tourism and @THE GROUNDS. The Placer Valley Tourism focuses on bringing tourism to Lincoln, Rocklin, and Roseville. Kim 's leadership brought the management of @THE GROUNDS events such as volleyball, softball, and basketball tournaments to Placer Valley. The Roebbelen Center now hosts trade shows, community events (County Fair), sports events, celebrations, business meetings, and community events like Crab Feeds. In turn, local businesses: motels, restaurants, wineries, and events of gem shows and conferences, have all benefited. PVT tracks the availability of hotel beds, and the increase of events brought to the Vally now indicate the need for more hotel occupancy, like the hotel currently under construction near Leatherby's. Kim says they are: "Tourism Enriching Communities."

The Four-Way Test
           The Four-Way Test
Of the things we think, say or do:
   1. Is it the truth?
   2. Is it fair to all concerned?
   3. Will it build goodwill and
         better friendships?
   4. Will it be beneficial
        to all concerned?

   5. HAVE FUN !!
