Jep Rogers and His American Flags

Art ran the meeting for President Karen, who is still basking in the sun in the tropics.  Following another excellent lunch, we paid tribute to those who lost their life defending our country to celebrate Veteran's Day. before proceeding with our normal meeting. (Click on Video below for a great Lee Greenwood song with accompanying pictures or use this link YouTube Video if video is blank.)

ImagePaul R. made a short presentation about Typhoon Haiyan emergency relief and why we should donate to help those in need.  This was supported by WildBill who related a story that Joe Stewart has relatives from a village of about 5000 that is no more.  Following the meeting, Paul reported that we collected ~$1600 with $1000 going to ShelterBox and the remainder being split between Direct Relief and World Vision. (See Paul's Relief Org. Summary.)  We expect more donations from members not present at the meeting. Thank you, thank you, thank you Lincoln Rotarians.

Pete is spearheading a food drive next week for the benefit of the Salt Mine. Dig into your pantries and bring canned food and other non-perishable food items to the meeting. You will get ticket(s) for a drawing (more food - more tickets) for a great prize.  Dan reminded us again about the Lincoln Area Archives Museum tour is Tuesday the 19th at 5pm.  Pete won the drawing, but no big prize.

ImageJep Rogers, a neighbor of Claire's, gave an excellent presentation on the evolution of the American Flag.  He has a large collection of flag replicas that he flies at his home in SCLH, where he had to educate the powers-that-be that yes he was flying American flags. The history and background of some of his unique flags was extremely interesting. See the pictures below.
