Service Above Self
That is the true essence of Rotary. Service! That is why we chose to join Rotary. We wanted to serve our community. We didn’t join Rotary to just pay monthly dues. We didn’t join Rotary just to sit in a weekly meeting. We didn’t join Rotary just to have lunch on Thursday’s. We joined Rotary to serve.
As a Rotarian there are many ways to serve. You can get involved in a committee and work to serve in a specific area. You can get involved and help with the weekly meetings. You can take a leadership role and help shepherd one of our big events. Or you can simply show up and help at one of our planned volunteer events.
This last Saturday a group of us volunteered at the Salt Mine here in Lincoln. A quick 2 hours to help the community and those less fortunate. We helped to serve 111 Lincoln families. There were 5 of us there from Lincoln Rotary. Three Rotarians and 2 Rotary family members. We were a small but mighty team.
We all have busy lives, but because of Rotary we have the obligation to serve. The question we need to ask ourselves is: Am I just a person attending rotary meetings, or am I a Rotarian? We don’t have to do Rotary; we are privileged and get to do Rotary.
