I was born in San Francisco. I married at 20 to a CHP officer. We had three children and then I went back to college. I was a teacher and director of a preschool in Santa Cruz. We were transferred to Truckee in 1982.

I helped open Northstars childcare center in 1982 but left in 1984 to open my own preschool in Truckee, which I had for 30 years.

During that time, I also began an after-school program with the Truckee Donner Recreation Department.

I did summer field trips for the Truckee Donner Historical Society and for 10 years did Saturday Storytimes at the Truckee Library.

After closing my preschool, I did 30 Storytimes weekly in three elementary school three days a week.

I was given the honor of winning the Truckee Service Above Self Award from the Truckee Rotary in 1989 and in 1990 I joined the Truckee Rotary. For 20 years I did a literacy project with Rotary, giving books and book bags to new parents, detailing the importance of giving very young children a love of books to begin their educational journey. We also did weekly Storytimes in preschool classrooms giving 75 low-income children a free book each month.

Since moving to Lincoln, I service our Little Libraries every other week 7 elementary schools. I also do the Family Storytime at Twelve Bridges Library.

Without Rotary I would not have been able to share my love of children and books. Giving children an early experience with literacy will affect their entire educational process. Thank you, Rotary.
